We are looking for a Lead Technical Author to join our Military & Large Projects team in Chesterfield. In this leadership role, you’ll head our team of technical documentation authors and play a key part in ensuring that all documentation across the Cathelco and HEM Business Line meets the highest standards of quality, compliance, and customer focus.
You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and customers to deliver clear, coherent, and timely documentation across multiple projects—contributing directly to our world-class solutions for naval and commercial marine sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and delivery of technical publications for customer projects.
* Collaborate with project teams to align documentation with project milestones and client specifications (DIDs, CDRLs).
* Act as the main point of contact for documentation matters across the business line.
* Review customer specifications, identify compliance gaps, and guide teams on technical and documentation strategies.
* Support the creation of ILS documentation, including BOMs, spares breakdowns, and maintenance recommendations.
* Drive continuous improvement of authoring tools, templates, style guides, and documentation processes.
* Provide mentorship to technical authors and contribute to team knowledge-sharing.
* Ensure best practices in document control, versioning, and export compliance.
* Represent documentation in customer interactions when required.
What You’ll Bring
* Proven experience leading technical documentation projects—ideally in marine, engineering, or manufacturing industries.
* Strong knowledge of compliance, technical authoring, and documentation delivery.
* Skilled in Microsoft Office, SAP, AutoCAD, and documentation/project tracking tools.
* Understanding of engineering drawings, standards, and terminology.
* Familiarity with FMEA, FMECA, and ILS is a plus.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* High attention to detail and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
* Marine industry experience is beneficial but not essential.
* We value experience over formal qualifications in this role.
