About us
Glass Futures is a not-for-profit research and technology organisation, carrying out collaborative, cutting edge research in glass manufacturing and sustainability, made possible by a significant private and public sector investment of over £50m+ over the coming years.
The Role
An opportunity has become available for a new R&D Project Manager to join our team, assuming responsibility for key projects delivering new technologies and processes that will play a vital part in helping to decarbonise the global glass manufacturing sector and foundation industries. The role will be within the Glass Futures Projects & Innovation Team and will provide unique opportunities to work with leading global manufacturers and internationally recognized brands on projects based at commercial plants and St Helens.
Industry and project management experience is critical for this role due to the varied scope of responsibilities. We are keen to meet with people who have experience of delivering R&D projects in an industrial environment. Experience of financial project management is essential: a key aspect of the role will be ensuring the projects proceed with a close adherence to budget. Experience of working with government funding bodies would be extremely desirable.
The role will involve working closely with the Funding Bids Development team and therefore experience of preparing successful R&D grant funding applications would be beneficial. It’s essential that you are motivated by Science or Technology and can provide practical support within an industrial environment. Glass or ceramics sector experience is advantageous for this role due to the nature of the business and projects.
Given the project-based nature of the work you may be expected to spend short periods of time away from home and are also expected to cover occasional shift work to support project trials.
Core responsibilities
1. Project management of high-level (up to multi-million-pound) industrial projects, including control of the project plan, schedule, risks and budget.
2. Developing and communicating project objectives, reviewing project proposals and plans.
3. Management of partners, stakeholders, funding agencies and monitoring officers.
Person Specification
We are looking for:
1. Experienced project managers who have delivered grant-funded R&D projects in industry (ideally under programmes funded by UKRI, BEIS or DESNZ)
2. MSc in areas related to Materials Science (Glass/Ceramics), Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering or Process Control or equivalent.
3. Formal training in Project Management, such as Prince2, PMP, Agile etc.
