Cardiac Surgical Care Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Surgical Care Practitioner to join the Cardiac Surgical team at St Thomas' Hospital, AFC band 7/8a depending on experience.
As a member of the Cardiac Surgical multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will work closely, under the guidance of the Cardiac Surgeons, to provide support in the pre-, peri and post-operative care of patients.
We are looking for an experienced, energetic and self-motivated individual to join our existing team of cardiac surgical care practitioners who are passionate about theatre nursing and their role. The successful applicants will also have the ability to work effectively and flexibly within the busy cardiac department here at St Thomas'.
Main duties of the job
* Working under the direction and supervision of the Cardiac Surgeons, assist senior and junior clinicians during cardiac surgery.
* Work autonomously in harvesting conduit for coronary artery bypass surgery, assist in all surgical procedures and contribute to the pre-, peri and post-operative care of patients.
* Experience in harvesting conduit by conventional (open) and endoscopic vessel techniques, although support and training can be given where required.

* Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
* Assist in all aspects of cardiovascular surgery including harvesting of vein and radial conduit, utilising conventional and endoscopic techniques and assisting in the surgical opening and closure of patients.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Flexible to cover a range of shift patterns to meet the needs of the theatres and cardiovascular department.
* A commitment to the delivery of a high standard of evidence-based care.
* Promoting best practice and contributing towards quality improvements.
* Sound written and verbal communication skills.

* Basic Surgical Skills (suturing, knot-tying). Excellent manual dexterity.
* Experience of audit, research and evidence-based care.

Educational/Qualifications
* Qualified Surgical Care Practitioner.
* Current Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health Professional council.
