Job overview
The Autism Assessment Team at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist to provide assessment under the direction and supervision of the Lead nurse who holds clinical responsibility.
Main duties include:
* To work according to a plan agreed with the supervisor.
* To assist in clinically related administration, conduct audits, collect statistics, and develop audit and/or research projects.
* Teaching and project work.
Applicants should hold a good honors degree, research experience, and previous experience as an Assistant Psychologist or working with young people and/or in a hospital setting may be an advantage. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

Support and enhance the professional psychological care of children and families within the Autism Assessment Team as directed by, and under the supervision of, a qualified Clinical Psychologist. Main duties include:

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Following appropriate induction and under direction and supervision, undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of clients including standard psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, and structured observations.
Assist in the delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
Assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.
Work with other staff to assess outpatients and inpatients and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
Attend and contribute to clinical psychology meetings and appropriate multidisciplinary meetings as directed by qualified clinical psychologists.
Person specification
Training and Qualifications
* An upper second class honours degree or higher in a related health subject.
* Experience of working within applicable areas of practice within an NHS setting.
* Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional practice.
* Experience of working within the neurodevelopmental paediatrics field.
Knowledge & Experience
* An ability to apply existing neurodevelopmental knowledge to a mental health context.
* High level communication skills (written and verbal).
* An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
* High standard of report writing.

* Evidence of good communication skills.
* Evidence of high-level communication skills.
* Demonstrates reflection and sensitive communication and self-awareness.
