Join us and help shape the future of renewable energy What you’ll be doing As Civil Engineer you’ll deliver and manage engineering services in line with your qualification, experience and competence to CTO and the wider business. The role will manage engineering design and risk, exploiting value adding opportunities while ensuring appropriate engineering and quality standards are maintained. • Leading by example and proactively maintaining the highest level of standards to comply with all Zero Harm requirements while taking care of personal health and safety and that of others. • Undertake civil, structural and geotechnical engineering activities which are within your qualifications, experience and competence in accordance with statutory requirements, industry standards, EDF-R standards, and EDF-R policies including Zero Harm, Quality, Engineering, and Design Management. • Undertake continuous professional development in civil engineering discipline so that up-to-date knowledge and skills can be applied to the role. • Provide civil, structural and geotechnical engineering support to maintain and improve the integrity of our operating assets across all applicable EDF-R Directorates and for the full lifecycle of assets from origination to decommissioning. • Embed Engineering excellence and operational experience in all activities. • Provide civil engineering technical direction and support to establish a temporary or permanent corrective action plan, and support root cause analysis (including undertaking investigations) and solution development when required. • Ensure all engineering assessments, advice and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures. • Support technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) activities. • Responsible for ensuring project development and operational risks are identified, captured, recorded and addressed appropriately, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure risk level is ALARP. • Ensure that asset lifetime standards, quality and costs are optimised during the origination, design, and construction of EDF-R assets, including review of contractor deliverables, assessment of bidder proposals and preparation / input into concept designs / FEED. • Represent EDF Renewables in external meetings, industry bodies, tradeshows and conventions. What do you need to be great at this role? You’ll have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in civil engineering design and/or construction and preferably a minimum of 12 months experience in the renewable energy sector. • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related subject, a master’s degree in a related subject would be preferable. • NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) is desirable. • Either be chartered with the Engineering Council through a relevant engineering institution (i.e. ICE, IstructE etc.) or be working towards chartership. • A general understanding of how renewable energy technologies operate with a more detailed knowledge of the associated civil, structural and geotechnical requirements. • Experience in the preparation of preliminary/concept designs (layouts, general arrangement drawings, site access routes, constraints analysis etc.). • Experience of undertaking civil, structural and/or geotechnical designs from feasibility through concept and detailed design, preferably for renewable energy projects. • Good understanding of how other engineering disciplines interface with the civil, structural and geotechnical engineering aspects of a renewable energy asset. • Experience in the preparation of technical specifications, employer’s requirements and other technical documents. • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and building professional relationships in order to successfully deliver projects safely, efficiently to programme and to budget. • Experience in conducting technical and commercial negotiations with contractors, consultants, statutory organisations and/or other relevant key stakeholders. • Experience of managing contractors and consultants. • Experience in the preparation of geotechnical desk studies and design / specification of field works would be advantageous. • Experience of tender / bid evaluation would be advantageous. • Experience of mentoring technical staff as well as mentoring non-technical staff would be advantageous. • Experience in the preparation of remediation works for operational assets whilst minimising downtime and maintaining integrity and safety would be advantageous. • Knowledge of risk-based inspection and assessment would be advantageous.
