Job Overview
Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a 9PA Consultant or Specialist Grade in Microbiology.
You will join three other Microbiology consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive microbiology, virology & infection control service, based at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. We represent the western hub of a collaborative Dorset-wide service, "One Dorset Pathology." Our eastern counterpart is based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital University.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Together with the three other consultants, provide a comprehensive, quality-focused microbiology, virology and infection control service to the Trust and other users of the service.
2. Undertake one of four roles shared between the consultants on a rotational basis, namely infection control, antibiotic stewardship, laboratory lead and clinical lead.
3. Contribute to continuous quality improvement and innovation in the delivery of our services.
4. Work as part of a supportive, close-knit and dedicated team.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential Criteria
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
* An appropriate higher qualification - FRCPath, MRCP Specialty Certificate Exam in Infectious Diseases or overseas equivalent
Desirable Criteria
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Microbiology or Infectious Diseases via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 mths of interview) or CESR
* Higher Degree Diploma in Hospital Infection Control (Dip.HIC)
Experience, Knowledge and Clinical Skills
Essential Criteria
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to gain UK CCT in Medical Microbiology and/or Infectious Diseases. This would include a minimum of 10 years of medical work (continuous or aggregate) since obtaining primary medical qualifications, at least 5 of which in a relevant infection speciality
Desirable Criteria
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems relating to laboratory and clinical microbiology, infection control and antimicrobial stewardship.
* Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant and practise independently.
* Experience in a special interest that will complement those existing in the department
* Particular interest in antibiotic stewardship
* Particular interest in Infection Control
* Broad range of IT skills

* Knowledge of and direct involvement in audit
* Knowledge of principles of research and evidence of involvement in research

* Evidence of general management training and skills appropriate for the post
* Evidence of ability to work within the NHS performance framework and targets and to contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust
* Ability to take responsibility; to respond and adapt to changing circumstances; to work under pressure and cope with setbacks
* Knowledge of organisational aspects of the NHS
* Ability to take responsibility and show evidence of leadership

* Evidence of teaching experience and experience in organising educational activities
