The Psychiatric Liaison Team based at the Hergest Unit in Bangor offers an assessment service to the population of the acute hospital.
The team provides a 24/7 assessment service to the acute hospital with a team of nurse practitioners, a team manager, consultant psychiatrist, a speciality doctor, and team secretary. Also working alongside the team are Older Persons Liaison Nurses, Alcohol liaison nurses, a specialist occupational therapist, and health care support workers.
The opportunity has arisen to recruit a further Band 6 practitioner to join the Psychiatric Liaison Team.
Main duties of the job
The Psychiatric Liaison Team provides an assessment service to the District General Hospital (D.G.H) and Emergency Department (E.D) for people who present following episodes of self-harm, suicide attempts, and other mental health-related issues.
The post holder will provide comprehensive mental health assessments, signposting, and follow-up arrangements.
The post holder will triage individuals accessing the E.D for mental health issues and illnesses; assess risk and prioritize intervention and assessment to facilitate the appropriate timely response. This has significant benefits for patients presenting to the ED by reducing waiting times, streamlining transition through the department, and improving follow-up. In order to support this process, the post holder will have excellent knowledge of primary and secondary mental health and substance misuse services as well as community and tertiary services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Professional qualification RMN/ Professional qualification Social worker
* Knowledge of mental health issues relating to self-harm
* Knowledge and understanding of assessing and managing patients with suspected cognitive impairment
* Good knowledge of MHA/MCA
Desirable criteria
* Experience at Band 5 or Band 6 in adult mental health care
* Good knowledge of evidence-based assessment tools
* Knowledge of WARRN risk assessment
Experience
Essential criteria
* Suitable experience at band 5 or 6 RMN (or equivalent for social worker)
* Good understanding of multidisciplinary and community services
Desirable criteria
* Experience at band 6 within a community or acute setting
* Previous liaison experience
