The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) provides a critical service to the rest of NHS Wales, ensuring a safe supply of blood products for clinical use. The WBS also provides a range of services to support stem cell, bone marrow, and solid organ transplantation. The Velindre University NHS Trust Digital Services team has a vacancy for a Head of Digital Applications, who will lead a dedicated team of staff in the management of the software applications that underpin the delivery of all WBS services. Overseeing the ongoing development of a mixture of both in-house developed solutions and 3rd party commercial applications, you will be an outstanding communicator, working as a key point of contact within the organisation to establish and drive forward the Application Services workplan, ensuring alignment between the delivery plan and organisational priorities and strategic goals. The Head of Digital Applications is a key member of the Digital Services management team, helping shape and deliver the Digital Strategy. You will be a strong negotiator, an empathetic leader, and have a commitment to quality. In this role, you will have the opportunity to represent the WBS at national (UK) and international forums, to present the WBS approach and learn from other UK and international blood establishments.
Main duties of the job
1. Lead the WBS Application Services team, to deliver high-quality digital solutions for use by WBS staff and Welsh blood/transplant donors.
2. Oversee the agreement and delivery of the WBS applications work programme, aligned to the Trust, WBS, and Digital strategies.
3. Be the primary point of contact for staff within the WBS in respect of the design and development of WBS digital solutions.

* Master's degree or equivalent experience in an information systems/IT management role.
* Evidence of continued personal and professional development.
* GCSE or higher qualification in Maths and English.
* Management Qualification.
* PRINCE2 MSP ITIL MSc Health Informatics.
