Buckland Medical Centre is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic, qualified and experienced Dispenser to join our existing team. We are a rural surgery and form part of a 3 site practice. We have a full time (or near full time) vacancy for a Dispensary Assistant, working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 08.30-18.00 Wednesday 08.30-13.00.
You will have NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing or equivalent qulaifications for this post.
Job Summary:
* The main purpose of the Dispenser is to ensure that the drugs and medicines are prepared efficiently, accurately and safely according to legal requirements, and respecting patient confidentiality at all times
* To assist the Senior Dispenser in ensuring that effective financial control of the dispensary is maintained
Job Responsibilities:
* Checking and dispensing medication as per prescription
* Not to dispense medicines to unauthorised persons, without the doctors consent
* Dispense and record private prescriptions and collect specified charges
* To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient/Dispenser
* To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked and a record kept of all financial transactions
* Assist when required in the cashing up of the till
* Receive, record and dispense repeat medication requests
* To prepare paperwork and process prescriptions for Buckland Medical Centre
* To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the PPD for processing and reimbursement. The forms should be bundled in accordance with current PPD guidelines and include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34D
· Ensure prescriptions are sent to the PPD on time
* Answering telephone calls and passing on messages as appropriate
* Dealing with problems and enquiries
* Inputting information onto computer
* To keep dispensary stocked and maintain efficient stock control of both medicines and containers
* Keep efficient stock rotation
* Fully observe legal requirements relevant to a dispensing Practice, including HA regulations and controlled drugs. Maintain complete and accurate records for controlled drugs
* Ensure computer and all dispensary equipment is maintained in good working order at all times
* Ensure the most efficient use of the dispensary in conjunction with the doctors and relevant drug deals set up by the practice
* Ensure the cleanliness of the dispensary
* Ensure the safety of all who enter the dispensary
* To carry out any duties appropriate to grade/level as requested by the practice.
* To work flexibly within the team and to provide cover as necessary
* To work closely with and help with the training of new/junior members of staff
* To ensure maximum profit is maintained and losses are kept to a minimum
* To deal with problems encountered with wholesalers/suppliers
* To maintain cost effective supplies of drugs that are purchased from the wholesaler
* Ordering from the wholesalers
* To provide an efficient and caring home delivery service to patients where requested
* Assist in DRUM reviews if required to do so.
* Assist in the completion of NOMAD trays
Stock Control
* Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesaler’s computer link
* Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details
* Returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers
* Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method
* To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
* To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
* Removing ‘out of date’ stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas
* Disposal of returned unused medicines
