We are currently looking for a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Hemel Hempstead R&D team, bringing expertise in mechanical design and experience in packaging electronic and or scientific components for harsh environments. This is a hybrid role that requires site presence a minimum of 3 days a week. Due to the sensitive nature of the projects you will be working on, we would also need to put you through SC level clearance. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems, with a focus on electronic and scientific components that must operate in harsh environments. Design using a variety of manufacturing methods including plastic injection molding, additive layer manufacturing, sheet metal design, and conventional machining. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with electronic components and scientific instruments. Work on analytical instrument designs, particularly ion mobility spectrometry and mass spectrometry, ensuring precise and reliable performance. Utilize 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) for detailed design and product data management. Perform simulations and analyses using tools such as COMSOL MultiPhysics, MATLAB, and LabView to optimize designs. Ensure designs meet quality, performance, and regulatory standards. Key Requirements: Minimum 5 years of design engineering experience, particularly in packaging electronic and or scientific components for harsh environments. Competency in 3D CAD design tools (SolidWorks highly advantageous) and product data management. Hands-on experience with manufacturing methods including plastic injection molding, additive layer manufacturing, sheet metal design, and conventional machining. Desirable experience in analytical instrument design, specifically in ion mobility spectrometry or mass spectrometry. Familiarity with COMSOL MultiPhysics, MATLAB, and LabView is highly desirable. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
