Job overview
We have an opportunity to work as part of a small specialist team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries.
This post is brand new and will work alongside our SLT clinical lead for Spinal Cord Injuries. The post holder will provide an SLT service for both communication and dysphagia to the general medical wards, HDU, the Spinal Injury Unit, and will run outpatient clinics in voice/general & neuro and will also input into the muscle team.
Training can be provided for the management of spinal cord injury patients/tracheostomy management. In addition, we are in the process of establishing an onsite FEES service.
The post sits within the wider community SLT team in Shropshire. We are a small but hardworking and friendly team. We provide a service to a number of community hospitals across the county, ICS teams, outpatient clinics for both general/neuro and voice & dysfluency caseloads. We have an established voice team with regular meetings and CPD opportunities and support.
Within the wider SLT team, we provide services in stroke/acute medical/Oncology and provide an instrumental service in Video fluoroscopy. We have regular professional SLT & CPD meetings, management supervision, and clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of a Specialist Team in the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries.
You will have experience of working with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders within an MDT setting. The role will support patients with rehab needs associated with a range of medical, neuromuscular, and spinal disorders. In addition, you will run a general outpatient clinic and a voice outpatient clinic.
Main duties of the post include;
* The post holder will work as a specialist autonomous practitioner to perform assessment of complex patients with diverse presentations.
* To use specialist clinical reasoning to diagnose/interpret and then develop, deliver, and adapt individualized treatment plans for patients within a specialist clinical area.
Working for our organisation
This post will sit within the wider community SLT team which covers the county of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
We are a small but well-established team who cover a range of clinical areas including all four community hospitals providing both a ward-based and outpatient service, in-reach to the local ICS teams, and domiciliary teams. We also cover the regional specialist orthopaedic hospital and specialist spinal unit.
We provide a countywide voice service, which accepts referrals from numerous sources. We input into a joint ENT consultant clinic and SLT led Nasendoscopy clinics.
Our acute colleagues deliver a video fluoroscopy clinic and are in the process of re-establishing a FEES service.
We are strong advocates of regular clinical supervision, management supervision, and actively seek to support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues. We have regular whole team meetings and CPD sessions.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
* Registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Evidence of specialist clinical training in relevant areas
* Evidence of broad range of pre and post qualification experience
* Evidence of experience in relevant area of clinical practice – Dementia, neuro, and dysphagia
* Evidence of teaching/student experience
* Experience in audit and research
Knowledge
* Evidence of CPD (portfolio) detailing clinical experience relevant to the post.
* Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance
* Knowledge of current Evidence-Based Practice relevant to the post.
* Evidence of Specialist level of clinical reasoning
