Production Team Leader

The Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Team Leader will control sections of the manufacturing team, their activities & conduct. This will include direct hands-on intervention with factory activities where and when needed. The role will support the Production Manager in delivering low-cost production, conformance to plan, maximum capacity, optimum yield, minimal downtime, ie best efficiency. To act as a key member of the company operations management team, to further the goals & objectives of the business. The position is full-time factory based; remote working is impractical.
Job Description
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Supporting, assisting & deputising for the Production Manager and other members of the leadership team as needed both reactively & proactively.
* Ensuring that standards & requirements of Health & Safety are robustly maintained.
* Ensuring that standards of product & material quality, waste, & housekeeping are fully & consistently met.
* Organising & monitoring all production activities & team members.
* Ensuring that the production plans are completed & achieved in the most efficient way.
* Striving to improve performance against targets. Driving results, monitoring and feeding-back outcomes.
* Problem solving to keep production active. Recovering from errors with the least effect on the business & customer.
* Filling-in for staff absence and/or effectively re-organising to cover. Also providing or arranging break cover during the seasonal periods.
* Ensuring that Shop Floor Data Collection is maintained accurately.
* Finding better ways for working for the benefit of team members and the business.
* Always seeking to improve all aspects of operating and of the employee experience.
* Providing training, enforcing rules & maintaining standards of behaviour from all members of the team.
* The role may vary according to business needs.
The Person - Production Team Leader
* High level of understanding of people management skills & principles.
* Strong but approachable with gravitas, confidence, & empathy.
* Ability to organise around a variety of tasks & liaise directly with others both internal & external.
* The ability to communicate in detail with people at all levels. Supportive of colleagues.
* Understanding of the production processes, production plant, & workplace environment.
* Clear awareness of H&S principles & specific issues. Mindful of workforce & visitor safety & comfort.
* Highly flexible, adaptable, and committed.
Working Hours and Benefits
15.20 x 40 hours, overtime at X 1.5.
24 days holiday, plus Bank Holidays.
40 hours - Monday to Friday 07.30 to 16.30.
Additional Info
The number of people is around 16, distributed around a wide floor area. There are around 6 or 7 departments containing those people, so mobility, juggling, and keeping things connected is more the task.
There is little paperwork. There are working documents to distribute & collect, a few simple forms to fill. There is no real computer work other than reading emails.
In practice, this wants to be very much shop floor oriented - minimal office time apart from occasional meetings/discussions.
