Job overview
Applications are invited for a full-time Community Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist within the Low Secure and Community Forensic Directorate in Nottinghamshire.
The Directorate is comprised of a low secure inpatient hub and several community services in Nottinghamshire. The community services include a Community Forensic Service across Nottinghamshire County, a Community Forensic Intellectual Developmental Disability (CFIDD) service, Assertive Transition Service (ATS), a Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion (L&D) service and MBT / Personality disorder services.
Applicants must be eligible for registration on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register (forensic psychiatry), have Approved Clinician status and be approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act. Possession of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or to be within 6 months of attaining it, in forensic psychiatry is a requirement. Equivalent qualifications and experience would be considered.
Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification to the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Newly appointed consultants will be offered mentoring which will be arranged by the Associate Medical Director.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients
* To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department
* To participate in annual appraisal
* To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme
* To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, MHA S12 and or AC approval if required, and to abide by professional codes of conduct
* To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation
* To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with colleagues in the medical contribution to management
* To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the Medical Director and other managers in preparing plans for services.
* To provide high quality evidence-based senior medical care to patients in the community.
* To demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as identified in the Trust’s Equality and Diversity Policy and associated Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Legislation.

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry with appropriate forensic experience)
* Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status and DBS clearance
* Relevant higher degree eg MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
* Ability to take a leadership role in a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care and staff morale
* Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
* Ability to appraise own performance
* Experience in providing written reports for legal purposes
* Expert knowledge of forensic psychiatry
* Risk management linked to provisions of mental health care including secure care and protection of public
* Experience of Care Programme Approach
* 3 years approved higher training in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry and equivalent experience in forensic psychiatry)
* Working with mentally disordered offenders
* Knowledge of management and clinical leadership structures within the NHS
* Ability to contribute to the Directorate and Trust’s strategic direction
* Clinical experience of working in community forensic settings
