Base pay range
Company: Chapman Tate Associates (on behalf of our client, a leading MSP)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop, maintain, and enhance RPG applications on the AS400, IBM iSeries, and related systems
2. Write and optimise RPG code to ensure high performance and functionality for clients
3. Work with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
4. Collaborate with other developers to integrate RPG systems with modern technologies and applications
5. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing RPG applications, providing ongoing support
6. Perform system upgrades, patches, and migrations, ensuring minimal disruption to services
7. Ensure that coding practices align with industry standards and best practices
8. Produce technical documentation and support knowledge sharing within the team
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Strong experience with RPG programming (RPG IV, RPG Free format) on AS400, IBM iSeries, or similar platforms
2. Familiarity with DB2 for i (SQL/DB2) and other databases on the IBM iSeries
3. Experience with job scheduling, data transfer, and system integrations
4. Knowledge of CL (Control Language), DDS (Data Description Specifications), and file handling on AS400
5. Understanding of software development methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall
6. Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and optimise legacy RPG applications
7. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on attention to detail and quality
8. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
9. Experience working with modern technologies and integrating legacy RPG systems with cloud-based or web applications
10. Familiarity with IBM Watson or other IBM services
11. Previous experience in a support or maintenance role for IBM iSeries/AS400 systems
12. Knowledge of additional programming languages (e.g., Java, Python) is a bonus
13. Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM iSeries/RPG) are advantageous
