An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Barnet Memory Service for an assistant psychologist to work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team. The team consists of psychiatry, mental health nursing, Admiral nursing, occupational therapy, clinical psychology and assistant psychology. This is a dynamic and friendly team, based alongside the Older People’s Community Mental Health Team. The service is accredited through the Memory Service National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP) and all members of the team contribute to ensure that these standards are maintained and built upon.
The post holder will support and enhance the psychological care of patients, by providing psychological assessment and interventions. These include Cognitive Stimulation Therapy groups and START (an 8 week manualised one to one psychological intervention for carers), which are delivered under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. The post holder will also be required to carry out administrative tasks related to clinical care. This will include keeping accurate and up-to-date records, the collection and analysis of data and the development and implementation of audits. There will also be the opportunity for participation in research and ad hoc project work. The post holder will take on role of champion for research within the service.

1. To assist in the co-ordination and running of post-diagnostic therapeutic groups, particularly Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) groups.
2. To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients and carers, applying self report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
3. To assist in the formulation and delivery of psychological interventions, ie START carers intervention, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
4. To assist in the provision of post-diagnostic education for patient and carers.
5. To work with other staff assessing clients and reviewing their care in preparation for multidisciplinary reviews.
6. To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service across all settings in which care takes place.
7. To attend and to contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
8. To assist with psychology within Older People’s Barnet CMHT psychology services as required.
9. To take on role as champion for research.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington.
