Job description
Safran Landing Systems is the world leader in aircraft landing and braking systems and is at the forefront of contributing to safer, more sustainable aviation for current and future generations. We design, test, manufacture and assemble landing gear used on commercial aircraft including Airbus and Boeing, and UK military aircraft such as the Eurofighter Typhoon.
We are now recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to join the team! In this role, you will provide strategic leadership, functional direction and expert advice in all aspects of personal safety, health and environment, whilst ensuring legal compliance.
Through the site management team, you will work to establish a safe and healthy work environment, free from risk of accidents and unsafe working conditions and practices. You will develop and deliver the tools, training & development and analysis necessary to keep every employee and other stakeholders safe in the workplace. You will drive, develop and deliver new and innovative initiatives for HSE, ensuring compliance and aligning the site to the Safran and regulatory health, safety and environmental requirements.
Key responsibilities & duties include:
1. Oversee the co-ordination, design and delivery of the HSE cultural program for SLS Gloucester through proactive, specialised expertise and timely training & development.
2. Embed a culture of health, safety and environment across the business, where managers and employees, at all levels, are engaged with their HS&E responsibilities.
3. Alongside the communications team and site management teams, create an impactful HSE communications strategy, including creating systems that encourage personal ownership of HSE, and drive day to day governance of compliance aligned to HSE standards.
4. Ensure legal compliance by managing the effective implementation of HSE management systems, policies, standards, procedures and guidelines across the site aligned to Safran group requirements.
5. Be the key focal point for all internal and external interfaces including audits, inspections and agencies.
6. Drive required actions to ensure the site continues to develop and implement environmental processes and procedures to maintain compliance and manage and improve environmental performance.
7. Manage the regulatory inspection process required for COMAH and the compliance to EA and Severn Trent discharge permits for waste water and effluent.
8. Implement, develop, monitor and adhere to Management Systems that are aligned to all relevant UK/European legislative requirements and industry quality standards.
Travel specificity
This role is site-based. There may be occasional travel to other UK sites or internationally a few times per year.
Candidate skills & requirements
Qualifications:
Educated to at least Level 3 (AS/A Level or Level 3 qualification), ideally relevant degree level 2:2 or above.
Professional Qualifications:
• Corporate membership of IOSH by examination
• NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent, is required as a minimum.
SKILLS:
• Significant Health, Safety & Environment experience in an operations environment, ideally within the engineering/production environment.
• Chemical processing knowledge and experience of managing a COMAH regulated site.
• Experience leading & motivating a team.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Understanding and previous success in delivering cultural change and behaviour-based safety initiatives.
• Highly developed influencing and change management skills.
• Self-starter with drive, energy and determination to succeed.
• Resilient and assertive.
• Ability to oversee multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced work environment.
• Strong, pragmatic problem solving skills.
• Strong IT skills, including HSE systems and Microsoft Office Packages.
Desirable:
• IEMA Certification in Environmental Management.
• NEBOSH Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management would be an advantage, but is not essential as the opportunity to study for these higher qualifications will be offered to the right candidate.
