The Vacancy
We are One YMCA, a registered charity and housing association delivering community-based services across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Bedfordshire. As part of the work we do, we help and support over 57,000 young people to belong, contribute and thrive every single year.
One YMCA is entering a period of rapid expansion and growth, with aspirations to both diversify and strengthen our housing provision. Whilst part of a rapidly expanding staff team, currently with over 100 employees, we are recruiting for supported housing worker roles to work with residents in our Hatfield Hostel Service.
This role is part of a team delivering accommodation and support to local individuals. Support will be delivered in a person-centred way, aiming to understand the strengths of individuals. Residents will be supported to get the most from their accommodation placement while also planning for their future and more independent living.

2. Actively engage with residents to maximise the benefits of their stay at the YMCA.
3. Work towards and achieve the agreed Key Performance Indicators and performance objectives and ensure a high level of service is provided.
4. Ensure each resident has a clear programme of support in place to help them achieve the independent living skills required for them to progress onto a more or even completely independent living placement/accommodation as they get older.
5. Ensure the health and safety of the residents; support them to maintain and further improve their mental health, and promote their independent living abilities in accordance with their individual support plans, fully involving them in all aspects of the planning and service delivery.
6. Develop and maintain operational links with key partners and stakeholders, keeping them fully informed of the pathways and support needs of the residents.
Requirements:
1. Experience of working with a vulnerable client group and/or those with a history of homelessness.
2. Qualification in a related field (e.g., housing, social care).
3. Knowledge of mental health and substance-related issues.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to engage an audience and effectively deliver the target message.
These roles may require working flexible hours in accordance with the rota, as set out by the line manager, and in line with the needs of the service users.
Providing considerably more than just accommodation, our highly experienced support and complex-needs team deliver over 23,000 housing-related support sessions each year through which our housing team was able to support a total of 992 vulnerable individuals to escape homelessness and rough sleeping, with 463 of our residents being helped to move on positively into their own long-term settled accommodation.
This is an exciting time to be joining One YMCA as we embark on an ambitious plan to grow our housing service and double the impact we have across all our accommodation sites.

Our aim is to empower residents to gain the tools and skills that enable stability, independent living, promising futures, and connection to their communities. Currently, we provide housing services and supported living across 12 different districts in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire, and we are actively recruiting new staff to help even more vulnerable people in the community, changing and saving their lives!
