To have an overall understanding of what patients are waiting for and proactively address delays by liaising with the relevant referring ward/area. Have an awareness of capacity within each area to ensure patient flow in each area is as smooth as possible and reduce situations of patient build-up and conversely poor utilisation of the scanner. Take responsibility for answering hospital calls regarding in-patients to a central Radiology number including calls from referring clinicians and give proactive advice, problem solving and escalating as appropriate. Answer all queries regarding scan times and results availabilities for all in-patients attending Radiology. Liaise with wards to discuss patient preparation for scan and ascertain as to whether the patient is ready and alert any issues which may affect patient flow to the Senior radiographer in the relevant modality. Place patients onto Nerve Centre portering and contact the porters to discuss any patients that do not attend within 30 minutes of requested time. Escalate to site matron/Radiology Bronze contact as necessary. Communicate rejections of radiology requests to the wards, entering also on Nerve Centre. Gather any additional information required by the Radiology Team to enable good patient flow and effective utilisation of key scanning equipment. Assist with the management of patient pathways by giving clinicians relevant information to enable pathway progress.
