Linux Support Engineer - £300-£400 p/d Inside IR35 - Hybrid (2/3 times a week on-site) Newcastle/Blackpool
Are you a skilled Linux Support Engineer with active UK SC clearance? We're recruiting for an exciting hybrid role, supporting a high-profile public sector client. You'll play a critical role in maintaining and improving vital IT infrastructure for a department that impacts millions of lives across the UK.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* Patching & Maintenance: Perform regular patching of physical hardware and virtual machines.
* Proactive Monitoring: Monitor and maintain day-to-day operations of platforms and virtual machines up to the OS level.
* Incident Resolution: Respond to and resolve incidents using an enterprise-level Incident Management platform (e.g., ServiceNow).
* Platform Support: Manage typical OS tooling, including antivirus, backup, monitoring, software management, and deployment.
* Project Collaboration: Support project delivery activities from inception to acceptance into support.
* Cloud Migration Expertise: Facilitate server migrations from on-premise to cloud environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure VMware Service).
* Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with other support teams, including network, storage, and security.
What We're Looking For:
Linux Expertise
* Familiarity with RHEL6, RHEL7, RHEL8, and Oracle Linux (OEL).
* Experience managing Linux VMs in VMware environments.
* Knowledge of OLVM platforms.
Automation Skills
* Hands-on experience with automation tools like Ansible.
Upgrade Support
* Experience supporting upgrade activities (e.g., RHEL7 to RHEL8 migrations).
Security Clearance Requirement
* Active UK SC clearance is mandatory for this role.
Bonus Skills
* A background in working with public sector clients.
* Familiarity with ServiceNow deployment in a large-scale environment.
