Job Description Join Our Team as a Professional Standards Misconduct Caseworker Our Professional Standards Department (PSD) investigate a wide range of public complaints and internal conduct matters, working in line with Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) statutory guidance in respect of investigating Misconduct. You will also need to be skilled at interpreting and applying legislation, policy, statutory guidance, and procedures, to be able to uphold the force’s standards and values. If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, professional, and knowledgeable team as a Professional Standards Misconduct Caseworker. As the Misconduct Caseworker, you will have a degree of flexibility and autonomy in managing your workload, deciding how to effectively plan and arrange misconduct cases and develop your own style and approach. You must have the ability to make difficult decisions, review information quickly and ensure the harmonious functioning of various parts for effective results. This is a challenging position that requires skills to confidently prioritise and manage high demands, to ensure timely misconduct proceedings. You must be comfortable working in a fast-changing environment, and able to think quickly. The post holder will require strong communication and analytical skills and requires an ability to maintain focus over long periods of time. Your Main Responsibilities Will Include Providing advice and guidance relating to the management of Misconduct Hearings/Meetings. In conjunction with the Professional Standards Department & Vetting Coordinator implementing and ensuring compliance against policies, legislation, and procedures, which will include undertaking relevant tasks in their absence. Planning and organising police officer and staff disciplinary hearings and meetings and arranging appropriate disclosure and service of documents on relevant parties. Being a point of contact for Investigating Officers and Legal Counsel when discussing and challenging bundles and regulatory documents, acting as a third-party liaison to ensure bundles are ready to serve fully accurate and compliant. Completing relevant administration tasks in preparation for Misconduct Hearings/Meetings, by compiling and distributing necessary paperwork, arranging refreshments, booking rooms, sending relevant correspondence to attendees including the subject officer/staff member and recording proceedings. Assisting with training of new panel members and chairs to ensure responsibilities are understood and complied with in relation to misconduct proceedings. Independently lead on training as and when required for team members and HR colleagues. Undertaking such additional duties which may result from changing circumstances without a major impact on the general character or level of responsibility of the post, for example providing administrative assistance to the Department, researching information, preparing timely reports, files, presentations to support the misconduct team on a variety of sensitive and confidential. Skills And Experience Required Proven experience of interpreting and working to complex procedures, policies, legislation and regulations. Previous administrative experience gained in a busy working environment. Experience in handling confidential information. Experience in analysing and managing large data sets. Computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise at all levels with external and internal individuals using verbal and written communications methods. Ability to work alone and in a team to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and challenge in the appropriate manner. High level of organisational skills. Excellent attention to detail. This role is office hours across Monday - Friday, exact hours can be agreed with the successful applicant. Though please note, due to the nature of the role, you will be required to work outside of your standard working hours when the misconduct proceedings are taking place. To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
