System Engineer
CGM LAB Belgium is a major provider of IT solutions for medical laboratories in Europe, in hospital environments and in private laboratories. With our laboratory information system MOLIS, we are a key player in this field in several European countries.
To reinforce our Technical Service team, we are looking for a System Engineer.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Administrate the infrastructure of the BU (development and support) – including installation, active maintenance of OS, tools and software, and monitoring of the health of the systems.
* Configure and install products, systems, solutions, equipment for demo, training, and/or support needs.
* Manage Oracle and Postgres databases
o Installation, monitoring for health and performances, tuning.
* Install and upgrade products, systems, solutions on customer hardware.
* Participate in service interventions such as system upgrades, configuration changes, and preventive maintenance actions.
* Follow the security patches for the supported OS, DB, and tools.
* Produce and maintain technical documentation, procedures and working instructions to build our knowledge base.
* 24/7 customer support
o Take turns on the out-of-hours customer support rotation, including during the weekend.
o Perform site installations and updates during the weekend on rare occasions.
* Automate your work as much as possible.
* Follow the developers’ best practices and coding rules. Make proposals to improve them.
* Work closely with development (including QA and Documentation) and deployment colleagues
o to deploy and manage tools that support development automation, configuration, and release management.
o to deploy tools that monitor the performance of the systems, including DBs.
o to coach development team on DB topics.
o to define how to deploy developed software.
o to help define a DevOps strategy.
* Define purchasing needs for the installation, maintenance/upgrades of systems and software.
* Liaise and connect with relevant stakeholders: colleagues, third parties (OS, DB, software providers), customers
o To provide technical assistance on customer service requests (Incidents, Change Requests, Request for Information, Installations).
o By taking full ownership for response time, incident restoration, and follow-up on incident resolution.
* Manage your planning considering both your internal and external customers, reporting your work to your line manager.
Required Skills and Experience
* Proven experience (5+ minimum) of administration of Linux or Windows servers (with willingness to learn the other). Knowing both is a major plus.
* Understanding of knowledge sharing and quality by following the best practices of development: code review, testing, maintenance of a knowledgebase.
* Good command of English plus fluency in French, German or Dutch. Multiple languages are a plus.
* IT knowledge (networking, management of IT infrastructure, support to IT end users, management of VPN connections, authentication, and protocols: AD, LDAP, Azure, etc.). Strong IT knowledge is essential.
* Advocate of Security, and working knowledge of Security tools, hardware, and best practices.
* Knowledge of and solid experience with Oracle and/or Postgres database administration.
