As a content editor, you’ll ensure our digital information is accurate, accessible, and easy to understand—supporting residents to get the services they need quickly and efficiently.
Working closely with service teams, designers, and developers, you’ll write, edit and structure content that meets the needs of our users and aligns with GOV.UK style and accessibility standards.

Job purpose
A content editor maintains content for the end-to-end journey of a service to help users complete their goal and local government deliver a policy intent. Their work may involve the change to, a transaction, product or single piece of content that stretches across digital and offline channels, Information content may be in structured, unstructured or semi-structured forms.
Responsibilities
* Maintaining content, information architecture and contributing to the delivery of transactional online services.
* Understanding the requirements of the organisation and the desired audience
* Converting content into a format suitable for publication
* Delivering content to the user at the point of need
* Managing copyright, data protection and other legal issues associated with publishing and re-using published information and data
* Ensuring published material is in a form accessible to all potential users, including those with disabilities releasing or retiring content.
* Working closely with content designers, user researchers, front end developers/designers, and services across the city.
* Maintaining content in line with our standards, taking account of accessibility and ensuring best practice is incorporated in all activities.
* Contributing to the development and implementation of a framework for content publishing, including preferred media, overall information structure, and rules for formatting content.
* Any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade.
Essential requirements
It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.
* Works with colleagues and clients to understand audience needs and to assimilate source material.
* Creates draft content to meet the requirements of the audience as clearly, simply and quickly as possible.
* Applies guidelines and standards to moderate content from others, escalating where appropriate.
* Content Publishing (SFIA Level 2)
* Understands technical publication concepts, tools and methods and how to use them. Uses agreed procedures to publish content. Obtains and analyses usage data and presents it effectively. Applies principles of usability and accessibility to published information.
* Demonstrate a track record of delivering on time to a high standard.
* Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback in accordance with our content standards.
* Confidence building relationships with service experts.
* Ability to contribute to changing or developing approaches to improve quality and support a culture which drives up standards and performance.
* Ability to communicate the benefits of content design and research
* Ability to communicate effectively, clearly and succinctly both in writing and verbally to a variety of audiences.
* Be able to thrive working collaboratively in a team environment but equally demonstrate capabilities to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales.
* Able to work flexibly from home and across different work locations as appropriate.
* Knowledge of Content Management Systems
* Understanding of Chatbot content design
* Understanding of how to balance business and people’s needs and translate these into effective content.
* Understanding of agile practices and how they help deliver products/services.
* Understanding of public sector issues and local government.
* Writing engaging content to established standards.
* Interpreting complex information across a broad range of subject matter including areas which are technical and specialist in nature into useful and well written content.
* Thinking about tasks from a customer/citizen’s perspective and keeping them at the heart of everything you do.

Desirable requirements

* Knowledge of Content Management Systems, specifically Drupal (Version 8 or 9)
* Understanding of SEO practices.
* Contributing to projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team, achieving positive outcomes.
* Publishing content to CMS, specifically Drupal (Version 8 or 9)
