The Role We have a brand new opportunity for an Mechanical Design Engineer to join the JFD team and provide engineering design solutions and life engineering support to the JFD product range. You will be involved in new product design, any client's request for upgrades or equipment change in the field. Principle Accountabilities Assess technical queries and provide engineering design input to new products and support existing product range. Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances. Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials. Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports. Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation and adherence to company standards and processes and compliance to internal and external standards & regulations. Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget. Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required. Accountability and responsibility as technical checker of drawings and documentation generated in support of the mechanical engineer role. Qualifications and Experience Proven mechanical design skills. Skilled in generating design calculations. Be able to work with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing). Manufacture of prototype components and take design from concept to validation. Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques. Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems. Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA. Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV) will be advantageous. Product design experience would be advantageous. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages. Previous diving equipment design experience would be advantageous. Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience. Any relevant diving qualifications would be advantageous. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Excellent attention to detail. Focus on delivering high quality output to tight deadlines as well as willingness to go the extra mile to ensure success.
