An exciting opportunity is available for the newly created Endoscopy Lead role. This role will develop and implement a quality pre-operative assessment service to meet the needs of all patients requiring endoscopy intervention across UHBW. The post holder will ensure the highest standards of patient care using research evidence-based practice, national and local protocols.
1. Perform the competencies of a trained pre-assessment nurse.
2. Undertake the teaching and assessment of Junior personnel.
3. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate programmes of care for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures.
4. Act autonomously within given competencies and recognise when to make appropriate referrals.
5. Working days are negotiable, attendance at multiple sites is required.

Fitness for endoscopy is assessed and patients receive the appropriate instruction in preparation for their procedure.
1. Be a dynamic, enthusiastic role model providing clinical leadership regarding pre-operative assessment and preparation to ensure a high standard of care.
2. Demonstrate initiative and independently work within the extended role seeking support in line with local protocol.
3. Understand the risks and benefits of the associated endoscopy procedure.
4. History taking ensuring relevant medical and social history.
5. Interpretation of clinical findings.
6. Incorporate evidence/research-based practice.
7. Initiate appropriate referrals, investigation, education, and treatment in light of assessment.
8. Evaluate the patients' programme of care with other members of the care team.
9. Demonstrate initiative, decision making, and good time management.
10. Co-operate with staff from other healthcare settings in the community and the extended endoscopy teams, to develop effective channels of communication and to provide a safe and caring environment for patients, relatives, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
11. Review pre-op services across the Trust and integrate provisions to ensure consistent care is delivered.
12. Support the expansion of the service in order to review more patients preoperatively.
