Reference: e10cefd4 We are looking to recruit a support worker for 10 hours per week during term time and 15 hours per week during school holidays, to work together with another support worker, providing 2:1 support for the child both at home and to access age-appropriate activities in the community. Initially all support will be delivered at home. The support will predominantly be after school from 4pm and there is flexibility around evenings that are to be worked. Family are keen to recruit worker who will also support with nighttime routine, bathing and getting ready for bed. There may be a requirement to apply medicated creams as necessary, training will be provided. The child has a diagnosis of autism with a lower functioning age and limited verbal communication. He has no awareness of risk and danger and requires support to ensure he remains safe at all times. The child has recently demonstrated some adverse behaviour towards others, although this tends to be around routine changes. We are looking for committed workers to build up a strong relationship with the child and support him with appropriate behaviour strategies. He is an energetic, bubbly little man and does require somebody who can be consistent with their approach and calm his energetic nature when required. The child loves being outside visiting parks, forest walks and building sandcastles on the beach. He also enjoys swimming, and we would prefer support workers who are happy to go swimming on a regular basis. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata. Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid by the employer. Person Specification The successful applicant must: · Have experience and a positive understanding of children with disabilities · Have a genuine interest in working with young people with complex needs · Be able to respond patiently, positively, and sensitively to any changes in behaviour · Have a high degree of initiative · Be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised · Be flexible · Have a happy, positive and caring nature · Respect confidentiality Car drivers are preferred but not essential and must be insured for business use. Mileage will be paid in agreement with the employer. The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
