Chief Financial Officer | Communications Consultancy | London/Hybrid
Harmonic is delighted to be supporting one of the UK's most innovative and purpose-driven professional services businesses in their search for a dynamic Chief Financial Officer.
Having built a strong reputation over the past decade, the company is now seeking a commercially astute CFO to help steer the next phase of growth, with a view to a potential strategic event in the next 3-5 years.
The Business
This organisation delivers high-impact consulting and advisory services across both public and private sectors, working on projects that create meaningful change. With a turnover of £25 million in 2024, they have experienced impressive growth, underpinned by a strong leadership team and a culture that values innovation, collaboration, and societal impact.
Currently, the team consists of approximately 100 full-time employees, supported by an extended network of specialist consultants. Their Board and investors include some of the most respected figures in the UK business landscape, bringing extensive expertise in scaling high-growth companies.
The Role
This is a pivotal position for a hands-on CFO who can balance strategic leadership with deep financial oversight. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO, providing financial and commercial insights that will shape the company’s future. From financial planning and reporting to exploring new revenue streams and refining the operating model, this role requires someone who thrives in both the detail and the bigger picture.
With revenues projected to surpass £30 million, the CFO will ensure the finance function remains both efficient and scalable, laying the groundwork for continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and develop the Finance team, including the Financial Controller and junior finance professionals.
* Oversee all statutory reporting, VAT compliance, and the successful execution of the annual audit.
* Own the production of Board packs and investor updates.
* Drive financial planning & analysis (FP&A), including cash flow forecasting, margin analysis, and project accounting.
* Support the CEO and Board with market analysis, commercial partnerships, and potential M&A opportunities.
* Identify and implement process improvements across finance and reporting functions.
What We’re Looking For (Essential):
* Fully qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA.
* Recent experience as a Finance Director or CFO within a professional services, consulting, or advisory business (£10m+ turnover).
* A deep understanding of financial management in a fast-paced, project-based environment—including revenue recognition, utilisation rates, and cost allocation.
* Strong commercial acumen, with experience supporting strategic initiatives and investment decisions.
* A track record of overseeing high-performance finance teams in growing businesses.
* Experience structuring and managing commercial partnership agreements.
* Exposure to Private Equity or VC-backed environments.
* Hands-on experience in M&A transactions, including data room preparation and collaboration with corporate finance advisors.
Work Location & Package
* Hybrid working, with circa three days per week in the company’s London office.
* Equity participation
* Annual discretionary bonus
