·To undertake senior responsibilities and clinical judgements in neonatal care. This will include examination of new-borns, early identification of risk factors, performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, interpretation of results, diagnosis and initiation of appropriate intervention and action or referral via a process of independent decision-making.
·To act as a role model for professional practice and to be accountable for advanced nursing practice, demonstrating high professional standards and personal integrity within a leadership role.
·To promote and facilitate communication within the department, maintaining effective information systems and disseminating information as required.
Main duties of the job
1. Provides advanced and highly specialist skills, advice, leadership, and education to the multidisciplinary team.
·Clinical leadership, in conjunction with the Paediatric Consultant, in the co-ordination of nursing and medical care within the Neonatal Unit and for neonates in Delivery Suite and the postnatal ward.
·Provision of advanced clinical skills, highly specialist advice and education to the multidisciplinary team.
·Provision of holistic individualised intensive, high dependency and special care of the neonate
·The ANNP will undertake Tier 1 duties on the Neonatal medical rota and function at a senior practitioner level taking on aspects of the role and responsibilities formally undertaken by junior medical staff.
The postholder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy, work across professional boundaries and make critical judgements to
satisfy the expectations and demands of the role, developing and practicing within clinical protocols.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
2. Neonatal Intensive Care qualification (ENB 405/QIS course)
3. Registered Nurse (BSc Hons degree).
4. Master’s degree in health-related subject
5. Advanced Nursing Practice qualification
6. New-born Life Support Provider qualification (UK Resuscitation Council).
7. Safeguarding Level 3

8. Evidence of ability to conduct audit and research.

12. High level of interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to plan and develop specialist education programmes, teach, assess, and present with excellent verbal, written and IT skills.
13. Ability to perform independently, organise and prioritise own workload.
14. Ability to recognise neonatal problems, analyse, interpret, diagnose, and intervene or refer appropriately.
15. Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, domestic violence, and substance misuse issues.
16. Ability to convey highly complex, sensitive, and emotive information to families regarding neonatal illness and treatment, abnormality, and mortality.
Desirable criteria
17. Ability to perform in place of the junior paediatric doctor and in the absence of other medical help.
18. Ability to provide highly specialised advice and consultation to the multidisciplinary team.
19. Knowledge of local clinical networks and ability to liaise and network closely with peers in other Trusts.
20. Ability to lead frequent stressful clinical situations such as resuscitation and management of emergency care.
21. Ability to act as resource/advisor in neonatal care for the multidisciplinary team.
