As the Emergency Response Capabilities Manager, you will work at the heart of the electricity sector, playing a pivotal role in ensuring NESO and the wider energy sector are prepared for emergencies.
You will be responsible for enhancing the current NESO exercising and training programme, ensuring staff are suitably trained. You will also expand the exercise programme to include a sector-wide annual exercise to test how organisations would work together during times of stress.
You will also lead or contribute toward various projects to improve NESO’s long-term emergency response capabilities. This will include designing how NESO will coordinate a sector-wide emergency in the future, contributing toward the design of a resilient operations centre, improving specific emergency tools, and developing a model to quantify the impacts of our major risks.
Throughout your work, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in NESO, particularly the Emergency Response Operations team, who focus on the resilience of NESO’s control room and wider organisation.
This role is based from Wokingham, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
* Oversee a comprehensive emergency response training and exercising programme for NESO employees.
* Develop a sector-wide emergency exercise to test and improve preparedness.
* Develop a proposal for conducting whole-system emergency response coordination.
* Contribute toward the design of a new operations centre.
* Collaborate closely with the Emergency Response Operations Manager to align training and exercising efforts with operational needs and readiness.
* Perform on-call duties and, when required, join an emergency response team.
* Build strong working relationships with the energy industry, DESNZ and OFGEM.

* Emergency training and exercising: Expertise in designing and delivering emergency response training and exercising programs.
* Emergency response: Proven skills in emergency response, with a strong understanding of response principles and practices.
* Electricity and/or gas knowledge: Familiarity with the energy sector, at a high-level.
* Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams, external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
* Leadership and Coordination: Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in coordinating cross-functional teams during high-pressure situations.
* On-call availability: Willingness to be on-call and occasionally respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
* Security Clearance: Willing and able to pass SC clearance – essential.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £65,000 - £75,000pa – dependent on experience and capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance, 28 days annual leave as standard, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
