Role – Financial Controller – Water Division
Location – Stevenage Head Office

M Group Services is a PE owned business delivering a range of essential infrastructure services within the water, energy, transport and telecom sectors in the UK & Ireland. The Group was recently acquired by CVC Capital Partners, and under this new ownership, the Group is looking to grow significantly over the next 5 years through organic growth and acquisition. As the Financial Controller, you will be working within the Water Division Finance Team, reporting to the Head of Financial Control, who in turn reports to the Divisional Finance Director. Your role will be focused on Morrison Water Services and the other MEICA subsidiaries within the Water Division (IDS, PMP and Z-Tech), whereby you will be responsible for the balance sheet and financial controls.
You will have the opportunity to make an invaluable contribution by providing financial analysis and insights that improve performance and support strategic decision making, as well as driving improvements in the control environment and reporting within the Division.
Key accountabilities:
1. Managing the delivery of Month End and entity reporting across the Division ensuring all Group deadlines are delivered.
2. Working with the shared service centre and team to ensure that timely (monthly/quarterly) balance sheet reconciliations are undertaken for all subsidiary companies, ensuring accurate financials and risks & opportunities monitored.
3. Developing and mentoring a team of two part qualified Management Accountants.
4. Approving journals from the team and managing all intercompany recharges and ensuring intercompany balances are reconciled and agreed monthly with the various counter parties.
5. Managing the delivery of the annual audits across Water Division companies including offering advice on technical matters.
6. Ensuring all audit deliverables and queries for the subsidiaries are provided and resolved in a timely manner to ensure the audit is completed by the due dates provided by Group Finance.
7. Resolving/improving processes and procedures based on any audit findings raised or new policies implemented by Group or Water Finance team to ensure finance best practice.
8. Providing support and analysis as requested by the Business Areas you work with, in line with agreed timescales.
9. Maximising the use of standardised models (Power BI / Oracle), ensuring the accuracy, meeting of deadlines, and ensuring that all work is compliant with internal policies and financial accounting standards.
10. Actively working with the business and associated finance colleagues, supporting the Improvement Journey to Process Excellence.
11. Participating in and helping drive forward the Finance Service Delivery, to further help prepare the business for growth and efficiency.
12. Some travel will be required to visit sites and other offices from time to time to work with colleagues to ensure all work is carried out efficiently, effectively, and accurately to meet deadlines that have been set, and to build up your knowledge of the business.
13. Ad-hoc project or integration work may arise as a result of acquisitions as the Group grows (including the recently acquired BGEN).
Qualifications / Skills:
1. Qualified Accountant ACA, ACCA (or other relevant accounting qualification).
2. Ideally previous experience within Financial Control roles in Group companies and/or financial audit background.
3. Experience in coaching and developing junior members of the team.
4. Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
5. Knowledge and Experience of financial systems (Oracle/SmartView).
6. Advanced Excel / PowerPoint skills.
7. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build relationships within a complex matrix organisation.
