Who are we?
Field & Flower was founded in 2011 by two friends after meeting at agricultural university, one a farmer and the other a food lover. We are a leading UK food subscription business specialising in grass fed, free-range meat and responsibly caught fish. We also offer a range of artisan cheese, scotch eggs, pies, charcuterie, stocks, salts, and seasonings – supporting livestock, local livelihoods, and a living planet with every product we sell.
Job overview
We are looking for a Buyer to join our team in Somerset who will own the day-to-day category management and buying of our products. This will cover a range of 12 categories and report into our Head of Operations, while following product strategy and a supplier assurance programme set out by our Head of Product.
You will be responsible for agreeing commercial terms and pricing with our farmers and suppliers whilst managing weekly reports on sales mix and product performance. You will be expected to evaluate reports weekly and actively seek better margin across our product range through strategic sourcing, in collaboration with the Head of Product and Supply Chain Manager, as well as more traditional category management. The ongoing management of the product gross margin and promotional planning will ensure commercial targets are met.
You will be able to recommend improvements to our current range and give data led insights.
You will report to our Head of Operations, and work closely with our Supply Chain Manager, Head of Product and Stock & Systems manager.
Key Responsibilities
1. Margin Actions – Cover inbound price negotiations and seek out opportunities to continually build margin across all categories for the overall betterment of our Product Gross Margin (GM1%).
2. Margin Strategy - Work with the team to help budget and forecast gross margin, inputting in seasonal merchandising and range building, in order to see incremental gains in GM1 over the year.
3. Buying & Negotiation - Analyse market trends, comparable suppliers and current supplier performance to negotiate sustainable prices with our suppliers on new and existing products.
4. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure product quality, reliability and continuous improvement.
5. Product planning – Work with the Head of Product and our suppliers to develop new products and continuously improve our current product line.
6. Product analysis - Provide detailed insights and regular updates to the senior team and relevant departments, staying up to date on market trends, consumer demands and pricing.
7. Perform category analysis and sales mix analysis to maintain margin targets.
8. Own and produce weekly sales reports and give insights to improve these metrics week on week.
9. Product promotions - Be the owner of product promotions both self-funded and shared with supplier. Planning and executing on site promotions, managing the discounting and pricing strategy.
10. Working closely with suppliers and our internal team to ensure everyone is aware of plans for launches, delists and planned product promotions.
Experience
1. Have an interest in food & farming.
2. Previous experience in a buying role for a minimum of 2 years.
3. Strong negotiation skills.
4. Excellent organisational skills, and detail oriented to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
5. Be proficient in Excel, happy to make your own reports when needed and be comfortable tackling and aggregating large sets of data.
6. Highly analytical and data-driven.
7. Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships.

Extra Information
Full time, Permanent: Monday-Friday, 9am-5.30pm.
Hybrid working. Minimum of 3 days a week in our office in Waterlip, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
Full UK driving license needed as you will be required to travel occasionally across the UK to visit suppliers.
Pay £35,000-£40,000 pa.
