The Role:
As a Senior Nurse – Outpatients with us, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering outpatient nursing services to patients within the unit and to deputise for the Lead Outpatient Nurse where required. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact and develop your career.
What You'll Do:
Your key responsibilities:
1. Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment
2. Assist with diagnostic procedures within the diagnostic clinics.
3. Chaperone and assist consultants with minor procedures.
4. Organise and support Outpatient clinics.
5. Liaise closely with all GenesisCare Consultants.
6. Carry out nursing procedures such as wound dressings, removal of sutures, ECG’s, blood tests etc.
7. Implement and maintain the highest levels of evidence nursing based practice.
8. Work within the GenesisCare policies.
9. Practice immediate life support to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate on-going management of patients who develop acute treatment complications
10. Assist in the development and audit of assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients who present with the most complex needs are referred to the appropriated specialist including patients and families who require more in-depth support and counselling
11. Ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols
12. Work in line with and contribute to local delivery of national care standards
13. Work alongside the radiographers, the chemotherapy team and outpatient staff to ensure holistic care is maintained throughout the GenesisCare centre and rotate to support other departments where required
14. Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/ treatments, contributing to the process of securing informed consent
15. Produce and provide all patients with relevant and accessible written information regarding their treatment
16. Supervise and participate in the delivery of programmes of education and training per the identified needs of clients, carers and other involved in their care
17. Lead on the specific areas of development of nursing practice within the team
18. To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence underpinned by evidence-based practice.
19. Participate in clinical audit within the outpatient service, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care and informing business and service development plans
20. Utilise up to date research/evidence to deliver patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multi-professional team
21. Fulfil the role of mentor, providing peer support to staff working within the outpatient services
22. Take responsibility for competency assessment or members of staff providing mentorship to junior staff
23. Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients, ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents
24. Ensure that confidentiality of information is adhered to and NMC standards for ‘record keeping’ are met
25. Participate in the evaluation of the service in terms of clinical effectiveness, clinical excellence, and cost benefit
26. Identify areas of practice that require review or adaption to meet the changing needs of patients
27. Achieve a range of clinical competencies as required to fulfil the role
28. Utilise up to date research/evidence to deliver patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multi-professional team
29. Maintain your own continuing personal and professional development in accordance with NMC requirements, GenesisCare expectations and business objectives
30. Adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct working within and accepting responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of competence
31. Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct for nurses, midwives and health visitors and scope of practice and be accountable for his/her actions at all times
32. Work out of hours to ensure that breakdowns or crises are resolved with minimum impact to service and treatments from time to time
33. Work across sites when necessary to support other GenesisCare Breast Care services

Qualifications and Knowledge:
43. Registered nurse with a valid NMC Pin
44. Phlebotomy
45. ILS trained
46. Evidence of post-registration professional development – Desirable
47. Have undertaken an advanced communications course – Desirable
48. Have undertaken a counselling course – Desirable
49. Hold a teaching qualification – Desirable
50. Ability to use common software packages and databases - Essential
