Responsibilities and Duties:
The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
* Building mechanical systems design responsibilities to include:
o Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, chilled water, hydronic systems, compressed air, natural gas, plumbing piping systems, fluid delivery systems, and energy conservation initiatives.
* Seek new technology applications and creative methods for accomplishing objectives. Develop technical reports and engineering documents, and value engineering analysis.
* Liaison under supervision, with clients & contractors for compliance with project scope of requirements.
* Provide technical consultation, including analyzing facility mechanical system problems in the field, and recommend solutions to the client.
* Assist in the development of the mechanical scope of work for new projects, owner reviews, and construction bid package development.
* Assist in shop drawing review process, request for information (RFI) and field observation reports to ensure they are processed in a timely manner to meet the project schedule milestones.
* Assist with mechanical cost estimating for developed scope of requirements for assigned projects.
* Develop and maintain standards, guidelines and best practices.
* Ensure that the construction work is in compliance with mechanical plans and specifications.
* Frequent travel, including occasional international travel to Client sites and facilities.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or technologist diploma or equivalent experience.
* Valid P.Eng or CET designation in Ontario or working towards.
* Minimum 3-5 years engineering design experience in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, hot water, chillers, chilled water, pumps, hydronic piping, ductwork layout, natural gas, plumbing, domestic water, sanitary piping, storm piping, and energy conservation initiatives.
* Understanding of the consulting engineering phases, feasibility studies, schematic design, construction documents, tendering, construction/admin and project close out.
* Experience in reading and editing project specifications (NMS, MS, etc.).
* Experience in local and national codes and standards (OBC, NBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, ASPE, TSSA, etc.).
* Experience designing for clients in educational, commercial, industrial, and healthcare markets.
* Must have experience in AutoCAD and the Autodesk Suite.
* Must have experience in Revit.
* Experience in BIM360 considered a plus.
* Must be familiar with preparing status reports, reading specifications and drawings, verifying contractor work, and project deadlines management.
* Must have the ability to analyze HVAC systems and processes, industry trends and then makes changes as needed.
* Good knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems building design, codes (NFPA, ASHRAE, etc.) and specifications.
* High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
* Sound management skills and enjoy working on technical aspects of building design projects in a fast-paced and supportive environment within a multi-discipline team.
* Some experience in facilities operations and maintenance.
* Experience in selecting HVAC equipment and coordination with manufacturers representatives.
* Experience in heating and cooling load calculations and/or experience with HAP or Trace Load Analysis software.
* High level of professional discipline and self-motivation, sincerity and have strong communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, and with others.
* Demonstrated ability to manage numerous issues and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
* Demonstrated team leadership, and construction project management experience.
* Demonstrated planning, organizational, interpersonal skills and leadership.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner.
* Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and programs required.
