Job summary
This role as a Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare offers the opportunity to work with fresh, seasonal ingredients and create nutritious, flavoursome meals for residents in a caring environment. The successful candidate will assist the Head Chef in menu development and lead the kitchen team, while enjoying a better work-life balance compared to a traditional restaurant setting.
Main duties of the job
As a Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare, you will work closely with the Head Chef to develop and deliver high-quality, well-balanced menus for the residents. You will have the chance to work with fresh, seasonal produce to create nutritious and delicious dishes, while also managing the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence. This role involves leading and motivating a team, working within budget, and completing regular audits to ensure the highest standards are maintained.

Job responsibilities
Working as a bank Second Chef at Barchester, you will have the chance to deliver hotel/restaurant standards without the split shifts and long weeks. You will assist the Head Chef in creating nutritious, flavoursome and well-balanced menus whilst working with residents to tailor menus around them. NEED TO HAVE
A personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents. Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent. Experience in helping lead and inspire a team. A good understanding of nutrition. Experience of working with fresh seasonal food. The ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within our home. Good understanding of HACCP.
NEED TO DO
Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence. Assist the Head Chef in menu development. Work fresh produce to deliver high-quality and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest quality and standards. Help create a warm, efficient and fun environment. Work within budget. Complete regular audits. Manage stock control. Assist in leading and motivating a team.
