We’re looking for a Profit Recovery Lead to join Co-op Wholesale, where we support over 4,000 convenience stores across the UK. We’re entering our next exciting phase of growth, and with that, we've got new opportunities emerging across Co-op Wholesale, like this one.
In this strategic role, you’ll design and roll out policies to manage commercial risks across the business and its P&L, with a strong focus on profit protection and recovery for both existing and new contracts. You’ll have the authority to create a robust sign-off process, ensuring accountability for commercial requirements at the initial stage of sales contract governance. You’ll also support leadership decisions on multi-million-pound contracts each year and take ownership of the commercial terms for bids and proposals within the governance framework.
If you’re looking for a valuable opportunity to make a significant impact on the future stability and success of the business, this is it.
What you’ll do
1. Work to identify profit leakages across the current partner base, focusing on profit protection and recovery.
2. Create a comprehensive framework to establish clear accountability, oversight, and control over customer, commercial, and sales operations. Lead this process as a regular business activity to create a sustainable way of working.
3. Establish a sales operation control with the Sales and Finance teams for bid/proposal sign-off, contract terms, and profit delivery, aligning with governance terms and Co-op Group requirements.
4. Fix profitability leakage through improved contract terms, clear guardrails, and sales team guidance on the new contracting framework within Co-op Wholesale Governance. Manage this to retain expected profit levels.
5. Develop and lead a profit recovery framework with the Co-op Shared Services Team, ensuring follow-ups and actions are delivered and achieved within business teams.
6. Work with Propositions, Sales, Commercial, and Legal teams to define commercial guardrails (rebates, incentives, service provisions, etc.) for each customer segment.
7. Create and manage a contract library to store all Co-op Wholesale customer contracts, capturing bespoke terms and delivery requirements to support business decisions and risk assessment.
This role would suit people who have
1. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide decision-making in both complex ad-hoc situations and standard BAU processes, ensuring rigor and alignment across teams.
2. Advanced commercial collaboration abilities, adept at navigating internal business functions and securing agreements through due process.
3. In-depth understanding of complex commercial models to drive revenue and prevent unexpected losses, alongside expert knowledge of business management frameworks and governance strategies.
4. Proven experience in sales operations, business management, and driving multi-million-pound decisions, with a focus on profit protection and business growth strategies.
5. Exceptional negotiation, contract management, and people leadership skills, including remote team management and the ability to self-motivate while driving performance across diverse teams.
Why Co-op?
If you’ve got the skills and experience we’re looking for, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get:
1. A company car or £6,000 car allowance
2. Private healthcare
3. An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
4. 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
5. A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
6. Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
7. Coaching and training to support your career development
