An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacist to work within the Pharmacy Workforce Development team at Leeds Teaching hospitals. We are looking for a dynamic and skilled pharmacist with a passion for education and development to work with our forward-thinking team to support and influence the future pharmacist workforce.
This post has been created to support the delivery of our undergraduate pharmacy placement programme and provide leadership for our 3rd year Foundation Pharmacists. The post holder will also contribute to the pharmacy workforce strategy supporting the implementation of the initial education and training of pharmacists and advanced pharmacist development programme.
We are looking for someone with educational supervision experience either with trainee or foundation pharmacists or equivalent. The post holder will also be expected to have developed skills in this area through a teaching or training qualification (or equivalent). In addition, the post holder will require skills in communication, organisation, negotiation, adaptability, and innovative thinking.

Main duties of the job
Lead the 3rd year Foundation pharmacist programme - delivering the planning and leadership of this cohort. This will include managing their choice of optional modules (eg prescribing) within the diploma and working with operational leads to co-ordinate their rotations and educational support.
Support the Bradford university teacher practitioner with organisation and co-ordination of pharmacy undergraduate placements from Bradford and Huddersfield university.
Support the pharmacy workforce development team with delivery of the Medicines Management and pharmacy (MMPS) workforce strategy and Leeds Trust Learning, Education and Training (LET) strategy.
Attendance at local and regional workforce meetings
Provide an educational supervisory role for trainee pharmacist and/or Foundation pharmacists.
Provide clinical and operational cover as part of job plan. This will be negotiated on an individual basis depending on experience/service requirements.

Job purpose
To provide operational and strategic input into the education, training and professional development of pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy undergraduate students. The post holder will also provide a clinical pharmacy service to a clinical speciality.
Job dimensions
Provides specialist professional leadership for a defined area of education, training or professional development within Pharmacy.
Designs appropriate structures and develops teaching methods that best meet the students' and department's requirements.
Provides expert opinion, both within and outside pharmacy on the education, training and development of healthcare workers with regards to the safe and effective use of drug therapy.
Supervises tutors and assesses junior pharmacy staff.
Provides highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients and the multidisciplinary team within a given clinical speciality.
Within their clinical and operational speciality ensures medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust Policy, standard operating procedures and medicines legislation.
They are professionally accountable for their actions.
Provide sessional cover in an operational service area
To act as the Responsible Pharmacist in line with local procedures. The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Masters qualification in Pharmacy (4 years), or equivalent qualification, plus 1 year pre-registration training.
Registrant of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience or qualification
Substantial post registration experience as a practising clinical pharmacist. Ability to demonstrate foundation level competencies in all 6 domains of the Advanced to Consultant Level Framework (ACLF)
Minimum of two years experience of mentoring, assessing and appraising postgraduate students or trainee pharmacy students.
Have undertaken training in educational theory ( MEd. PGCE, Train the Trainer)
Experience of dealing with complex clinical issues which require the pharmacist to analyse a range of sources, which may not be in agreement, to formulate a response. It may be necessary to find a novel solution to an unusual clinical situation.
Possess negotiating and persuasive skills for interacting with other clinical team members, hospital managers, patients and relatives
Experience of dealing with a wide variety and grade of hospital staff on a regular and on-going basis, including senior multidisciplinary and managerial staff.
