Rare opportunity establishing and maintaining strategic framework, transitioning legacy Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM) Human Factors (HF) support to aviation to meet contemporary and emerging needs of a Fifth Generation Air Force, collaborating with Defence HF stakeholders, ensuring IAM provides agile, timely, practical support to Defence, delivering safe and effective operational aviation capability.
In this role you will:
* Provide expertise in HF, human physiology, human performance, health/safety
* Support internal and external tasks encompassing human factors responses to challenging conditions of flight, physical and cognitive ergonomics, human systems integration, crashworthiness and survivability, interaction with life support equipment, health and wellbeing of aircrew and controllers
* Develop evidence-based advice to support Command decision-making on matters related to human performance, safety, and operational capability
* Participate in peer review of reports prior to section lead endorsement and dissemination to stakeholders
* Monitor and review efficacy of guidance, providing evidence-based framework ensuring advice remains contemporary and relevant
* Assist Principal Advisor providing guidance and scoping emerging tasks
About our Team
IAM is the ADF unit providing domain expertise in aviation medicine and human factors in support of aviation capability across Air Force, Navy and Army.
We are dedicated to the provision of specialist guidance and expert advice for:
* Specialist advice in aviation medicine and human factors
* Human-systems integration and ergonomics related to operation of aircraft or control systems
* Interface between aircrew and life-support systems
* Hazard analysis and advice in the assessment and management of risks arising from human physiology, ergonomics and anthropometry, medical factors, or human performance limitations
* Assessing the likelihood and consequences of human factors and medical hazards in aircrew and controllers, and working with risk-holders as part of a harmonised Defence risk-management system
* Supporting unit-level investigations arising from aviation safety events, or formal investigations for aircraft incidents or accidents
* The application of a structured approach to problem definition and providing evidence-based recommendations to support decision-makers.

* Develop formal reports and technical advice to high standards.
