Small Animal Registered Veterinary Nurse at Hook Norton Veterinary Group, Banbury, Oxfordshire
Practice: Hook Norton Veterinary Group
If you are an experienced Small Animal RVN looking to join a large SA Nursing team, we have an opportunity at our independent practice just for you. We are a friendly and well-established team made up of 15 RVNs, 4 Student Nurses, and 5 Assistants. As a qualified Small Animal RVN, you can steer your career aspirations using our structured career pathway. We welcome applications from RVNs with a range of experience or newly qualified RVNs who have a minimum of 1-year job experience. We are committed to training and supporting employees with their career aspirations; hospital experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
Although our practice offers both Farm and Equine services too, this role is dedicated to our Small Animal Team. You will focus your time solely on nursing duties and delivering the highest standard of welfare and clinical care to our patients whilst our outstanding Reception Team will manage the front-of-house.
WORKING PATTERN
This full-time role is 40 hours per week worked over either 4 or 5 weekdays. We proudly provide our own OOH, and you will be required to fully participate in a share of the weekend OOH rota (days and nights), which is currently on a 1:6 rotation. At present, there are no mid-week nights for this role, as we have dedicated mid-week Night Nurses. OOH nights are working alongside the Night Vet. If full-time doesn’t suit your current circumstances, we are open to working patterns that include fewer weekdays/hours or even working weekends only.
THE ROLE
The role includes all aspects of nursing within a busy hospital environment, using state-of-the-art equipment. We have an in-house laboratory, giving the opportunity for all of our RVNs to be trained in the use of the lab equipment and to expand their knowledge in this field. We attract a varied caseload ranging from routine cases to emergencies and high-dependency inpatients, so being able to multi-task and respond to urgent requests calmly and efficiently is essential for this role. The SA Team, including all the Vets, Nurses and Receptionists, are fully committed to providing the very best care, and you will find our ethos is to support each other fully until each case is complete.
A Day in the Life at HNVG: Our nurses ‘nurse’ and use schedule 3 techniques daily with duties such as blood sampling, intubation, IV catheter placement and much more. Our nurses get to experience a range of clinical duties, including nurse clinics, internal medicine cases, emergency and critical care, as well as participating in surgical nursing, including anaesthesia. We have the usual equipment to assist our nurses, including class 4 laser, multi-parameter machines, blood pressure machines including Doppler, EPOC and a separate ECG machine. Our vets also operate using laparoscopic equipment as necessary. We have two operating theatres, a dental room and a diagnostic suite, as well as separate dog and cat wards and isolation facilities.
CPD
We actively encourage all our nurses to undertake certificates; the opportunity is there if you want it! In the past, we have had 3 nurses successfully undertake and pass certificates, which have been fully sponsored by HNVG, as well as having 4 students undertaking qualifications. We currently have membership with Central CPD allowing staff free access to the resources available.
