We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role is an Apprenticeship Programme within our National Grid contract in South Wales and the South West of England. Our business is centred upon the provision, replacement, repair and maintenance of utility network infrastructure. With Green Skills being a key part of the future of our business, you will become an integral part of this change.
The Apprenticeship Programme provides the opportunity for individuals to become fully trained and qualified 'craft' persons on the 132kV to 400kV transmission network.

What will you be doing?
1. Electrical fitting activities on High Voltage switch gear, transformers and associated equipment
2. Installation of control and protection equipment
3. Installation of Earthing Systems
4. Installation of outdoor equipment such as Bus Bar, Disconnectors and Switchgear
5. Maintenance of High Voltage equipment
6. Fault Finding on Low and High Voltage equipment
7. Receiving High Voltage documents
What you’ll bring;
8. Driving Licence : Full licence and own car required
9. Education : GCSEs in Mathematics and English (grades A-C or 9-5)
10. Age : Must be 18+ due to health & safety policy
11. Interest : Electronics, electricity, or engineering
12. Teamwork : Ability to work well in a team
13. Manual Dexterity : Skilled with hand tools
14. Physical Ability : Comfortable working in confined spaces and all weather conditions
15. Location : Must live within the application area

Recruitment Process;
27. Next Steps: Complete a video interview, if successful you will be invited to an Assessment day
28. Assessment Centre : 10th July 2025 in Stevenage, Hertfordshire
29. Background Checks : Some roles require 3rd party background checks and drug/alcohol testing
30. Start Date : 1st September 2025
Career Development;
31. Starting Pay : £10.50 per hour
32. Salary Reviews : Every 6 months
33. Progression : Various pathways available post-completion, discussed during quarterly reviews
Programme Structure;
34. Duration : 3 years
35. Training : Rotations of 2-week blocks at the training provider's facilities in Manchester, followed by fieldwork
36. Accommodation : Provided during training blocks
Apprenticeship Development Scheme (ADS);
37. Blend of Sessions : Online and face-to-face
38. Focus Areas : Soft skills development and mental health/pastoral care support
39. Residential Elements : Some sessions will take place in England
40. Expenses : Travel, accommodation, and meals fully paid for
