Salary: Band: 5, £25,652 - £27,363 pa, pro rata (£15,599 - £16,639 for 22.5 hours) plus a 7.5% shift allowance.

About Russets
Russets provides full-time residential care for up to 7 people and respite care for up to 11 people with learning disabilities, in one adapted building. There are 2 flats within the building, one accommodates 4 people and the other accommodates 3 people. The rest of the building provides support to those receiving respite care.
Your new role
As Cook, you will be planning and producing a varied and exciting menu which is nutritionally based, including special dietary requirements, whilst managing a set budget. You will be responsible for preparing food on a daily basis with the help of a kitchen assistant and overseeing Health and Safety in the kitchen, including induction of any new staff. Following the stock ordering process, you will liaise with various suppliers and check the delivery of supplies while arranging appropriate storage. You will report any concerns to the senior team while ensuring all kitchen records are kept up to date, and policies and procedures are being followed. Additionally, you will be required to organise catering for special events.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need an advanced qualification in catering, for example, City and Guilds 701/702 and a basic food hygiene certificate (or be working towards a suitable qualification). You will have experience of ordering stock and the ability to keep within a set budget while cooking for a large number of people. A good knowledge of food and nutrition requirements for our specific service, including a good range of special dietary requirements, is essential. You will also have knowledge and understanding of food safety, including IDDSI and food intolerances or allergies (IDDSI training will be provided). With good interpersonal and communication skills, you will be flexible to adapt to changing workloads and requirements of the unit, possess the ability to organise and lead kitchen staff, and have an understanding of the policy regarding safeguarding vulnerable people.
