Job overview
The Adolescent and Young Adult Service, which is part of the Child, Young Adult and Family Directorate, is a specialist Psychoanalytic Therapies Service for young people between the ages of 14 and 25. This service represents a long history and established tradition at the Tavistock Centre, spanning over 50 years, of offering a service to adolescents and young adults during this crucial phase of development.
This post is for a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist or Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist to join the Adolescent and Young Adult Service. Clinicians in the service also contribute to the Young Persons Consultation Service, which offers brief, psychoanalytic consultations to young people aged 16 to 30.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintain a high standard of clinical records, producing and maintaining good communications with referrers and other professionals involved.
2. Foster a culture of networking in an open and transparent way with internal and external partners.
3. Communicate complex information in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, at times dealing with service users who may be hostile or present challenging behaviour.
4. Ensure that all organisational systems and processes are adhered to.
5. Contribute to the quality, safety, and continuous improvement of services provided to service users and their families.
6. Act as a positive role model and participate in the education, development, and mentorship of other staff.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Clinical Psychologist Degree level as a minimum plus Postgraduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
* Eligible for registration as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
* Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist Degree level as a minimum plus developed specialist and practical knowledge equating to postgraduate degree/ Masters level.
* Registration as a full member with Association of Child Psychotherapists as a Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.
Experience
* Evidence of substantial clinical experience of working with patient population 14–25-year-olds.
* A clear track record of managing complexity and risk whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery.
* Substantial experience of supportive and psychotherapeutic work within a psychoanalytic framework.
* Some experience of clinical management of staff.
* Some experience of involvement in project work e.g. quality improvement.
* Substantial experience of assessing complex and concerning adolescent and young adults and making appropriate recommendations.
* Substantial experience of engaging and working effectively with challenging adolescents and young adults, their parents and families from diverse backgrounds.
* Experience of working within a specialist Psychoanalytic Therapies Service.
* Some experience of clinical supervision.
Knowledge
* Willingness to contribute to strategic and business planning.
* Skills for assessing and communicating complex client conditions and applying appropriate clinical treatments.
* A strong interest in the mental health of young people and their families, particularly in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex and clinically sensitive information.
* Awareness of issues regarding the provision of psychoanalytic psychotherapy to under-represented groups.
Skills
* High level of skill and knowledge in safeguarding and risk management.
* Personal duty of care in relation to equipment or resources.
* Competent user of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Zoom.
* Ability to manage own clinical case load.
