Description Grade UE08: £49,250 - £60,321 per annum pro-rata CAHSS/Edinburgh College of Art/Design/Design Informatics Part-time: 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE) Fixed-term: from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2029 The Opportunity The University of Edinburgh’s Institute for Design Informatics is looking to appoint an experienced Research Software Engineer to contribute strategic direction and expertise to the delivery and reporting of the CoSTAR Foresight Lab. This role primarily tackles research related to the New Forms of Data workstream, supporting the production of reports, data dashboards, and novel approaches to data analysis and sharing about creative industries R&D. This role is part time and flexible working can be accommodated. Skills and Attributes for Success Relevant university degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering). Relevant post-degree professional experience in a research environment. Proven Python development skills and familiarity with packages for data analytics and visualization. Strong web development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and familiarity with platforms such as Wordpress. Excellent ability in managing and digitally preserving project data. Expertise in data analysis, stewarding, and visualization, including the development and testing of research data dashboards. Ability to map data sets over time and a deep understanding of the research lifecycle. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent oral and written communication capabilities. Demonstrable experience in project management and leadership. Planning & Organising This role requires methodical storage and backup of data, development of data dashboard prototypes, and strategic planning for software components to ensure sustainability and accessibility.
