The role
As a Nuclear Safety Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. At Devonport Royal Dockyard, Babcock supports the Royal Navy submarine fleet, with a number of operational nuclear and radiological facilities for the upkeep and maintenance of submarines.
For the foreseeable future, Babcock is significantly upgrading the Devonport site, and as such, you will have the opportunity to support the design and build of new submarine maintenance facilities.
Day to day, you’ll support the business by providing your expert knowledge around safety engineering to ensure the upkeep of our nuclear submarine facilities.
* Provide technical advice on nuclear safety assessment processes and policy
* Ensure compliance with statutory legislation
* Deliver nuclear safety cases
* Develop and implement nuclear safety processes and standards
* Act as an intelligent customer for 3rd party deliverables assuring the output is fit for purpose
The Nuclear Safety Engineer role is full-time at 36 hours a week with a hybrid working structure and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at the interview.
Essential experience of the Nuclear Safety Engineer
* A background in nuclear/radiological safety
* Good interpersonal skills and competence in verbal and written communication
* The ability to operate and interface effectively with senior stakeholders
Qualifications for the Nuclear Safety Engineer
* Educated to degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and/or have relevant knowledge and experience
* Chartered Engineer status is desirable (or working towards this)
Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
