Job summary
Applications are invited for a full time driver to work as a member of a busy team providing reprocessed sterile medical devices for both internal and external customers. The successful applicant will be responsible for the safe delivery of clean (processed) equipment and collection of dirty equipment from various locations, both internal and external to the hospital.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake driving duties ensuring the safe collection and delivery of specialist medical devices to both internal and external customers.
2. Working as part of a team supporting the decontamination supervisor and stores and distribution lead to ensure equipment is delivered and collected safely. Taking ownership of vehicles, ensuring that they are kept clean and tidy and that essential daily checks are carried out and recorded.
3. Assisting the decontamination supervisor with deliveries to internal wards and clinics and other duties as required.
4. Assisting the stores and distribution lead with stores duties as required.
5. Working in accordance with the Department's Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems.
6. This is a crucial area of the hospitals work, supporting the Operating Theatres, Wards, and local health centres in caring for the patient.

Job responsibilities
* The driving of all vehicles used by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as required within the requirements of the Road Traffic Act and within the legal limits of the licence groups held.
* The completion of daily checks and relevant documentation for any vehicle used in keeping with the Transport Department Policy. This is to include checking, and replenishing if necessary; fuel, oil, water, tyre pressures and all relevant fluid or oil levels.
* Responsibility for the roadworthiness of any vehicle being used and the security, safety and stability of all loads carried.
* Cleaning the vehicle inside and out on a regular, as needed, basis.
* Reporting any accident, however minor, to the Duty Service Manager and to complete all relevant documentation.
* Reporting any defects on the vehicle to the Duty Service Manager.
* The accurate loading and unloading of all medical equipment surgical sets and medical devices associated with the trusts work including bloods and specimens.
* The safe loading and unloading of the vehicles recognising the requirements of The Manual Handling Regulations.
* When required will support the SDU general stores area with stock control and rotation, including departmental stock takes, the issuing of goods and the storage of the same.
* Keeping the SDU dispatch area and loading bays clean and tidy.
* The routine collection and delivery of all commodities as required, by the sterilisation and disinfection unit and as required by the trust.
* Compliance with all of the Policies and Procedures of the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
* Completion of all necessary documentation as required in relation to the post held. Any other duties as may be required for the effective and efficient running of the sterilisation and disinfection unit.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* Proven ability to travel between different sites.
* Demonstrable experience and a good proven understanding of the transportation and storage of surgical sets and medical devices including samples and bloods.
Desirable
* To have proven knowledge of the collection, transport and storage of medical devices and surgical sets and equipment: ISO 13485- 2016.
* Demonstrable experience of driving a variety of Commercial Vehicles.
Qualifications
Essential
* Good standard of Education - minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above to include English and Maths or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Desirable
* Any other relevant driving or vehicle maintenance qualifications.
Aptitude and abilities
Essential
* Ability to work as part of a team, using effective communication skills with colleagues.
* Ability to work alone and use initiative where required.
