Job Title: Learning Support and Wellbeing Worker
Salary: £32,000 per year
Hours: Term time only – 39 weeks per year. Monday – Friday 8:30am-3:30pm.
Contract Type: Temporary contract offered subject to successful probation period of 6 weeks. Ongoing work to be expected as the business grows and expands.
About Us:
We are an alternative education provision dedicated to supporting girls aged 11-16 who have experienced trauma and/or abuse and are permanently excluded or at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where students can re-engage with learning, build confidence, and develop the skills needed for a brighter future.
Role Overview:
As a Learning Support and Wellbeing Worker, you will play a key role in ensuring the holistic wellbeing and personal development of our students. You will work closely with pupils, families, and staff to create a supportive environment where every girl feels valued and empowered to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Track and monitor student attendance, ensuring it is recorded accurately and followed up promptly.
2. Identify patterns of absenteeism and work with students, families, and staff to address barriers to regular attendance.
3. Build positive relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed about their child’s progress, challenges, and achievements.
4. Offer guidance and support to families in addressing issues impacting their child’s wellbeing and education.
5. Provide tailored one-to-one and group support sessions focusing on emotional wellbeing, self-esteem, and coping strategies.
6. Respond sensitively to the needs of students experiencing distress, acting as a trusted adult they can rely on.
7. Assist students during lessons and vocational studies, ensuring they feel supported and engaged.
8. Foster a positive learning environment, addressing behavioural challenges in a supportive and constructive manner.
9. Work alongside the staff team to manage the referral process, ensuring smooth transitions into the provision.
10. Support senior staff to conduct initial assessments of new students to identify their specific needs and establish appropriate support plans.
11. Actively contribute to team meetings, sharing insights and strategies to enhance student support.
12. Collaborate with teaching staff and external agencies to ensure consistent and effective interventions.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
1. Proven experience working with young people who have experienced trauma, abuse, or other complex challenges.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with students, families, and colleagues.
3. A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
4. Ability to manage challenging behaviour with empathy and professionalism.
5. Flexible, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable young people.
6. Relevant qualifications in youth work, social work, counselling, or education.
7. Experience working in an alternative provision or similar setting.
