Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering exclusively with a successful and international legal group to recruit a dynamic and experienced Full-time or Part-time Trust & Tax Manager based in their Cheltenham, Gloucestershire office. Working with the firm’s private clients and a range of partners within the Tax, Trust & Succession group, you will be part of a friendly collegiate team with opportunities for career development and the ability to add value through your expertise.
Your new role
Your key duties will involve overseeing and contributing towards the timely preparation of trust accounts and tax returns, including inheritance tax returns, and dealing with HM Revenue and Customs as required. You will calculate trustees’ liabilities to IHT, CGT, and Income Tax, making use of annual exemptions, along with managing payments and distributions from trusts, both capital and discretionary.
You will manage your own caseload and client relationships, proactively ensuring that any tax-planning and/or succession planning issues are considered, and prepare/attend trustee meetings. Additionally, you will activate investment reviews, monitor the performance of investments, prepare/review investment policy statements, and manage relationships with beneficiaries, drafting deeds and associated policies. You will also review and interpret trust deeds and related documentation, and delegate/supervise the work of more junior team members.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this hands-on Trust & Tax Manager role, you will need experience within a similar position, a strong understanding of trust accounts and the taxation of trusts, and ideally have experience with computerized accounts along with Trust/Tax software. You should be a proactive team player, highly self-motivated, and able to work on your own initiative. Excellent team working skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate with colleagues of all levels, including mentoring and guiding less experienced team members. You will need to build rapport with clients to develop effective working relationships, possess a good legal and commercial understanding of clients' needs, and have strong problem-solving skills. Experience within the legal sector and a STEP qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
