Main duties of the job
The Building Maintenance Department at Southampton General Hospital requires a Gardener to join our dedicated team on this modern healthcare estate. To keep the essential services running 24/7, you will enjoy working on the University Hospital Southampton sites Trust wide.
Previous experience in an allied industry/application is desirable although not essential. You’ll be required to demonstrate full experience in gardening duties or equivalent at the interview. The core elements of the job description require good knowledge in respect of gardening and groundsman duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be undertaking pre-planned, good practice and reactive works and general maintenance to the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) sites activities primarily at the request of the estates department via the designated Supervisor.
Work is generally carried out unsupervised and independently or in small teams, referring to a line manager, if necessary, to resolve complex situations.
Planning work closely with other trades and disciplines to achieve versatility, flexibility and cooperation towards effective and efficient working and continually strive to reduce costs wherever possible within the full scope of all relevant legislation.
We are currently looking for a Gardener, with equivalent experience in performing gardening and groundsman’s duties.
We are looking for someone who will have experience in working with multi-disciplinary estates and facilities to help deliver a clean and well-maintained site.

Qualifications / training required
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent knowledge
* Pesticide Applications Licence PA1&6 or Higher
* Safe use of Chainsaws Certificate
* N.V.Q Level 3 or Equivalent
* Royal Horticultural Society Level 2 Advanced Certificate in Horticulture or equivalent
Previous or relevant experience necessary
* Must have gained a suitable range of horticultural and ground works experience
* Knowledge of Health & Safety, Moving & Handling, COSHH
* PA6A qualification or willing to undertake training on appointment
* Previous work in an NHS environment
* Tractor and Tractor Mounted Equipment Training
