We are currently looking for a Head of Procurement.
The Head of Procurement is responsible for leading the Procurement function, driving strategy, performance, and innovation across sourcing activities, supplier relationships, and cost management. This role oversees and supports Procurement Managers and Executives, fostering a high-performing team culture that aligns with the company’s strategic goals and values.
As the senior procurement leader, you will ensure the supply chain is robust, efficient, and sustainable while delivering maximum value for the business and its customers. Your leadership will ensure operational excellence, effective cost management, and a focus on continuous improvement.
Role Responsibilities
* Develop and implement the overarching procurement strategy in alignment with business objectives and future growth plans.
* Provide expert guidance to the procurement team, ensuring alignment with key targets such as cost savings, supplier performance, and risk mitigation.
* Build and nurture strategic relationships with key suppliers to secure optimal performance, cost efficiency, and innovation.
* Ensure effective supplier segmentation and continuously evaluate supplier value against business objectives.
* Champion data accuracy, forecasting, and compliance across all procurement activities.
* Leverage technology, analytics, and insights to implement best practices and drive efficiency within the procurement process.
* Inspire, lead, and mentor Procurement Managers and Executives to deliver operational and strategic excellence.
* Establish a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Procurement team.
* Design and deliver a long-term procurement strategy that supports sustainable growth and aligns with the company's goals.
* Continually enhance procurement policies, processes, and systems to deliver an agile and efficient supply chain.
* Act as a trusted partner to senior leadership, providing actionable insights and recommendations regarding procurement performance, opportunities, and challenges.
* Manage the Procurement team, providing clear direction and strategic goals across all roles.
* Manage performance reviews, training, and career development plans for Procurement Managers and Executives, ensuring the team is highly skilled and motivated.
* Foster a culture of accountability, enabling the team to meet and exceed business objectives.
* Lead supplier negotiations to secure favourable terms while focusing on quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing.
* Conduct supplier segmentation and manage supplier onboarding and offboarding in line with business needs.
* Oversee annual performance reviews with strategic suppliers, implementing scorecards and KPIs to evaluate success and identify improvement areas.
* Own the procurement budget and cost management strategy, analysing and optimising spending to achieve measurable savings.
* Oversee forecasting and reporting on spend, ensuring cost variance accountability across the team.
* Identify opportunities for cost reduction and value creation within the supply chain without compromising quality.
* Ensure robust risk assessment processes are in place for supplier selection, onboarding, and performance management.
* Monitor regulatory compliance across the procurement function, ensuring adherence to industry standards and company policies.
* Develop contingency plans for supply chain challenges, minimising disruption to operations.
* Act as the key point of contact between Procurement, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Operational teams to align sourcing strategies with production needs.
* Collaborate closely with NPD, Technical, and Commercial teams to ensure successful product launches and innovation initiatives.
* Drive innovation within the Procurement team, leveraging market trends and new sourcing opportunities to gain a competitive edge.
* Champion sustainable and ethical sourcing practices, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and company values.
* Stay informed about industry developments and integrate best practices across the procurement function.
What you can already do
* Extensive experience in procurement leadership, ideally within FMCG, retail, or manufacturing environments.
* Proven track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
* Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver cost efficiencies and improved performance.
* Expertise in procurement strategy design and implementation, budget management, and risk mitigation.
* Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience working with procurement technologies and reporting tools.
* Strong ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including with senior stakeholders and external suppliers.
* Knowledge of sustainability, ethical sourcing, and regulatory compliance within procurement.
* Experience in the horticulture, gifting, or perishable goods sector is advantageous.
* Familiarity with contract lifecycle management and supplier segmentation methodologies.
