The MRC Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Therapeutic Genomics at the University of Oxford is a new, ambitious, globally collaborative research program focused on pioneering genome-targeted therapies for rare genetic disorders. With substantial new funding, we are seeking an experienced Head of Operations to work with the MRC CoRE Director and Leadership Team on the strategy and operational aspects of this high-impact centre, where cutting-edge research in genomics and the development and delivery of genetic therapies converge with patient-centred initiatives and diverse stakeholder collaboration. We have seen genetic therapies deliver dramatic cures to previously untreatable disorders, including spinal muscular atrophy and sickle-cell disease. Thousands more disorders could benefit from these approaches, but the process of developing these is too slow and expensive. We aim to revolutionise this process through data sharing, collaboration, systematic high-throughput methods, and applying artificial intelligence. As Head of Operations, you will work closely with the MRC CoRE Director, Prof. Stephan Sanders, and the Leadership Team, guiding the MRC CoRE’s strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, financial oversight, and operational efficiency. You will play a critical role in advancing research culture, supporting academic and non-academic training and career paths, setting best practices in responsible innovation, and ensuring high standards of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) across the MRC CoRE’s programs. You will help recruit and manage the newly established Operational Support Team (OST). Your leadership will enable the MRC CoRE to drive forward its unique mission in converting genetic discoveries into transformative therapies. About you This is a highly collaborative position, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You will have a strong background in managing complex, multi-partner research programs and demonstrate the ability to work at the equivalent of a post-graduate level. You will demonstrate significant expertise in strategic planning, program management, and financial oversight within a research or biomedical environment. You will be adept at fostering collaborations and have the communication and negotiation skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders across academia, industry, and the public sector. Experience in developing, implementing, and communicating strategies for responsible innovation, public engagement, and inclusivity is highly desirable.
