We are looking to appoint a whole time Consultant in Microbiology based at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT).
Pathology Services (including microbiology) are provided by South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Services (SYBP) and hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT).
This post will expand the service at TRFT and the post holder will be part of the wider microbiology and virology team based in Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Bassetlaw. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The person appointed will take their equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Departments.

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. You will also have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* Name on the specialist register for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology or Medical Microbiology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
* If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* MRCP, MD or PhD, or equivalent.
Research
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
* Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
Clinical experience
* Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Microbiology.
* Ability to use a computer and the internet.
* Ability to follow laboratory protocols.
* Ability to offer an expert opinion in a specialist clinical area commensurate with service needs.
Teaching and training
* Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.
* Experience of clinical or educational supervision of Microbiology & Virology trainees.
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
Management and Administration
* Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
* Experience of working in a Multidisciplinary team.
* Awareness of current issues in NHS.
* Experience of working with management groups.
* Ability to provide managerial level contribution to service development.
Clinical governance and audit
* Experience in performing clinical audit.
* Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.
Personal attributes
* Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values.
* Good oral and written communication skills.
