This role provides essential support, and at times leadership, to ensuring YW maintains water quality through a consistent, embedded, and integrated approach to Drinking Water Safety Planning that demonstrates our understanding and effective management of source-to-tap water quality risks. Reporting to the Drinking Water Safety Plan Manager, they work to deliver team objectives, provide effective information management, input scientific knowledge and opinions, and assist towards managing regulatory risks.

As our Drinking Water Safety Plan Scientist you will:
* Offer personal expertise on the implementation of Drinking Water Safety Planning (DWSP) for the company.
* Lead and deliver the programme of DWSP risk reviews within the company.
* Ensure the management of water quality and regulatory risks through regular risk review meetings.
* Organize, prepare for, deliver, and record meetings to coordinate risk mitigation, using scientific background to assess and challenge assumptions.
* Verify and analyse risks using existing data systems to meet regulatory obligations and operational needs, providing data for future planning.
* Contribute to the company's vision of zero failures and 100% regulatory compliance by identifying trends in water quality risks to predict potential failures.
* Work as a key member of the DWSP and WQ Compliance team to ensure effective resource use and achievement of team priorities.
* Act as the main focal point for information provision to key stakeholders, including involvement in DWSP Reg28 returns and Legal Instrument reporting to the regulator.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
* Extensive knowledge and experience in water quality, including relevant regulations, data, and customer contact issues.
* A scientific or engineering-related degree, preferably with knowledge of water treatment and distribution.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships, offering both support and challenge when needed.
* Rigorous attention to detail to ensure accurate and reliable performance.
* High proficiency in IT, particularly for analysing complex datasets.
* Proven effective organizational and leadership skills.
* Ability to apply expert scientific/technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve issues within the DWSP processes.
